International Experience Canada Program
Great news! Canada has increased the number of applicants who can apply for the international Experience Canada Program (IEC) by 20% for 2023. Therefore, eligible applicants can now apply from January 9, 2023.
Overview
The IEC can be described as a set of programs that allows young from designated countries (between the ages of 18 and 35) to get a temporary work permit which will provide the opportunity for them to travel and work in Canada without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). There are three categories under the IEC program.
- Working holiday
- Young professionals
- International Co-op internship
Working Holiday
Participants under this category can obtain an open work permit which is valid for one to two years. An open work permit will allow an individual to work anywhere in Canada. Working holiday visa is based on a randomized draw system. Not all who are interested in this program will be selected for the program. The chance of success is based on the quota for the program and each country.
Young Professionals
For this category, citizens of participating countries are eligible to apply for an employer-specific work permit which will allow them gain Canadian work experience. An employment contract or an employment offer is needed with a Canadian employer before applying. Also, the job offer must fall under the relevant National Occupation Classification.
International CO-OP
Individuals who are enrolled at a post-secondary school in their country of citizenship are allowed to apply for an employer-specific work permit which will help them gain enough experience in their field of study. Also, the applicants must arrange co-op placements with employers in Canada before they apply under this program.

Andorra | Australia | Austria | Belgium |
Canada | Chile | Costa Rica | Croatia |
Czech Republic | Denmark | Estonia | France |
